Some people enjoy the entertaining process of picking certain items and just tossing them into the luggage or backpack. This is actually pretty fun to do. But when you bring too much for a short vacation, it can caused a bad experience to yourself. It’s alright if you’re taking a vacation and most of the time your luggage will be sitting in that hotel room. But what if you are a backpacker and carrying a huge load of things on your shoulders almost every day? Let’s say you’re traveling to a remote place and that trip alone takes hours before you arrive there. Do you really think you have all the strength to carry such a heavy backpack?
Because we do not want for you to end up fainting in a foreign place, we have a few simple ways on how you can pack your things wisely :
Create A List of “What To Be Bring?”
Listing down every single thing you will need is always a smart choice. Typical items include a few pieces of clothes, footwear, toiletries, legal documents, first aid kits, electronic devices, prescription glasses or contact lens, and a lot more. The simple rule when choosing items to be brought is not to mistaken unnecessary things as something important. Why bother bringing sleeping bag when you know you are not going to go camping soon? Just take that sleeping sheet and it would be more than suffice. Some people also tend to bring trekking boots when most of the time being spent, they don’t even bother to climb. Other than that, choose only the electronic equipments that you really think you will need.(image by vskylabv)
Be More Selective
As soon as you picked everything you might need, place them on the floor or on the bed. And then, divide the items to two different groups. One group is for the things you will “really, really” need and another will be a group of items you “think” you will need. As you’re minimizing your items into a smaller scale, understand your own trip schedule and always be careful not to bring unnecessary things. This is because you can still buy a few items in that country and sometimes with cheaper prices! Once you’ve selected the items, pack the items you’ve chosen and toss back half of those things into your closet.
Do Not Miss A Thing
This process is very important and should be done a day before your departure. You do not have the chance of traveling back and forth just for a piece of shirt that you can’t live without. If you know you will need something, then ensure that you are double-checking everything on your list and in your luggage or backpack. Important legal documents should be printed more than just one or two copies as well, and always bring a second photo ID with you.(image by Cathy Frank)
Why are we not supporting you to carry a full pack once you’re leaving your home? This is because you will always want to buy something interesting and then bring them back for your family and friends. So, why bother traveling heavily when you know later you will need more space for new items? You will be just fine as long as you’re sticking to the rules. Being a minimalist while traveling will not only save you more time but also energy and probably help to cut down your budget a little.
