South Africa is without a doubt one of the most exciting countries in the world. A great number of tourists and visitors flock around this country because of its environmental diversity, abundant heritage sites and excellent tourist spots. It is very wealthy when it comes to culture, wildlife, picturesque views, activities, which makes it a must-visit for first time travelers.

The country is also renowned for its very rich history, it being the birthplace of Nelson Mandela, the politician and philanthropist who gained widespread praise all over the world for his activism against racism, poverty and inequality.

To get your fix of South African culture, you can head on over to its three main cities: Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

Cape Town

This is the second city in South Africa that is the most populous, right behind Johannesburg, and is the provincial capital of the Western Cape. It is South Africa’s legislative capital, and is the seat of the National Parliament. It is one of the most popular cities in the world for its beautiful shores, luscious gardens and parks and renowned landmarks such as Cape Point and Table Mountain.

Tourists and visitors will most certainly enjoy their stay in this well-known South African city just by taking drives around the city, particularly in the Hout Bay area, where it is filled with the most stunning beaches this world has ever had. There are plenty of car rental agencies for tourists and visitors to approach who are interested in taking a drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive to see the Atlantic Ocean and gorgeous mountains.

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which was created on the upper part of the docks of the Port, is one of the city’s most visited tourist attractions.

The city of Durban is the largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. In addition, it is the second industrial center in South Africa, the first being Johannesburg. Durban is notable for being the most eventful port in South Africa and in all of continental Africa. It is also recognized as one of the country’s hot tourism spots because of the subtropical weather and big beaches of the city (image by jeggerjay).

This city is never short of activities for you to do. And these activities will not only keep you busy, but they make sure that you will have fun and create a wonderful experience with these activities too.

Sports lovers will most certainly enjoy a good game of cricket, football and golf. Aside from that, the city also has plentiful attractions you can go to and see for yourself. Durban is also home of the uShaka Marine World, which is one of the world’s largest aquariums in the world.

Though this town is not greatly recognized as a tourist destination as such like other towns like Cape Town and Durban, however, it is a city that is just as competitive and just as beautiful like its neighboring towns. It is in here where you can get the ‘big city’ feel in all of Africa. It has luscious gardens and scenic parks with big trees that are greener than green, making it one of the world’s greenest cities.

The city itself is also filled with loads of sporting events, specifically football, where the Premier Soccer League and National First Division are just some of the events that take place here. The Johannesburg Zoo and the local historic museums here are a must visit as well.
