The United Kingdom is a country that is bursting with ancient buildings and splendid tourist attractions for the world to see. There are plenty of cities and places to visit in all of UK and this article lists down ten amazing cities that first time visitors of the UK should go to.

London, England

London is the capital and the most visited city in the United Kingdom. It is the largest city not only in the UK but also in the European Union, as well as the most industrialized out of all the cities here. It is in London where you can find Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Big Ben, three landmarks that are regarded as the symbol of Great Britain.

Edinburg, Scotland

The capital city of Scotland, it is deemed as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK, being a historical city that is overflowing with a myriad of monuments and infrastructures that are decades old. The city’s new town districts and its medieval town center are regarded as world heritage sites and it is famed for the Edinburg International Festival that happens once a year (image by honeypearl).

The city of Blackpool is located in Northwest England and can be located along the shores of the Irish Sea. The city is famed for various cultural landmarks, one of which is the Blackpool Tower, the UK’s own version of France’s Eiffel Tower. The tower is 518 feet & 9 inches and its base is concealed by the building which keeps the Blackpool Tower Circus.

Manchester, England

The city of Manchester is the third largest city and the second most populous city in the United Kingdom. It is regarded as a sport city and is the home of one of the most popular football teams – Manchester United. Besides that, the architecture in this city is inspired by Georgian and medieval times.

Liverpool, England

The city of Liverpool, located in Merseyside, England, is the fourth most populous British city. It is also known as the birthplace of the Beatles and is the home of another popular football team and club – the Liverpool Football Club. This Scottish city is the largest in all of Scotland and one of the most famous tourist destinations in the UK. The city is located on the River Clyde’s banks, which has grown into one of the biggest seaports in the region. One of Glasgow’s interesting and must-see attractions is the town center, which is located at the heart of the city.

Cardiff, Wales

The city of Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales, and is the ninth largest city in the United Kingdom. It is the home of numerous historical buildings including the Cardiff Castle, which has attracted several visitors through the years. Its picturesque landscape is also what makes it so popular with tourists.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

The city of Belfast is the largest city of Northern Ireland and is the fourteenth largest city in all of UK. The architecture in Belfast is inspired by the Edwardian period. The city has a total of 40 gardens and parks. It is also the city where the infamous RMS Titanic was created.

The city of York is a city that contains a very opulent legacy and has been a backdrop to several events throughout its existence. The second most populous city of both England and United Kingdom, the city of Birmingham is located in the Western Midlands. The town used to be a large market which eventually grew into an active city because of its growing development through the years.
